GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a man who loves music, is theologically informed, and desires to lead the church
in sincere and joyful worship of God. More importantly he must have a passion for God and he
must love and enjoy people. The Minister of Worship is responsible for the leadership of the
music ministries of Decatur Presbyterian Church and coordinating all aspects of public worship.
Though not necessarily an ordained position, we view this as a pastoral role. This is a full-time
position.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Personal: This position must be filled by a Christian with a credible profession of faith, evidenced
by an authentic growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This
person must have strong skills in leadership, organization and team building, able to effectively
balance coordination of details and long range planning.


Educational: This position requires an undergraduate degree (music is helpful but not required)
and an understanding and appreciation of the doctrines of Grace for the planning of Christ-centered,
culturally relevant worship. Opportunities for further training may be made available as
needed for professional development or as required for the growth and expansion of ministry
within the church.


Professional: This position requires experience and skill working with praise teams and musical
groups. Ministry leadership and team-building experience is needed. This position also requires
basic proficiency in musical composition and arrangement. Choral directing experience is desired
but not required. The ideal candidate will have a pleasing singing voice and competency with at
least one instrument.


Ministry: Must have passion for developing dynamic, blended worship services. Must see
priority for corporate worship experience over choir performance and productions. Must have
ability to lead congregation in worship through music, prayer and Scripture reading.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position requires an integral and inseparable relationship between personal attributes and
professional.


Personal
A. PRIVATE LIFE – Must be engaged in and exhibiting an ongoing and deepening personal
study of God’s Word, and personal prayer life.


B. FAMILY LIFE – Should evidence a high commitment to loving his family.


C. PUBLIC LIFE – Should develop a well balanced, wholesome, and winsome public life in
the community that is above reproach. Must be actively exercising his own spiritual gifts
in personal ministry reflecting his professional ministry.


Professional
A. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: General administrative duties related to staff
meetings, bulletin preparation, communications, etc. Develop and present budget
requests under his oversight. Pastoral care and concern for those directly involved in the
music ministry.

B. SPECIALIZED RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Worship Services:
• Plan and coordinate worship services with Senior Pastor
• Direct worship with praise team, worship band, choir and congregation


2) Praise Team:
• Develop and direct the Praise Team ministry, including band and
vocals. Our band currently includes guitars, bass, piano, keyboard,
brass, flute, and percussion.
• Plan and select all music
• Lead Praise Team rehearsals


3) Special Events:
• Plan, organize and administrate, in conjunction with staff, the musical
and media elements of the special events of the church’s ministry.


4) Multi-media Presentations:
• Plan, coordinate and execute multi-media presentations in worship
services, events or special congregational presentations.


5) Sound, Lights, and Special Effects Ministry:
• Recruit and direct leadership


6) Special Music Groups:
• Plan, coordinate and direct the use of outside musical or performing
groups
• Recruit, train, direct, and coordinate the use of musical groups within
DPC (ensembles, worship band, etc.)


C. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Children’s and Youth musical groups and choirs (this is a ministry we do not
have):
• Recruit, train and oversee leadership for children’s choirs
• Develop and direct youth musical groups and choirs


2) Choir Ministry (this is a ministry we currently have):
• Develop and direct the periodic use of adult choir ministry and vocal
ensembles
• Plan and select all music
• Lead choir rehearsals

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Senior Pastor.
