Community is built through relationships. Deep, satisfying relationships within the church allow us to follow Christ by the mutual encouragement of our friends.
It is our goal at Decatur Presbyterian Church to build each other up into a deeper faith in Christ. This is primarily done through these relationships, where we can grow in our love for one another, hold each other accountable and spur each other on to a deeper love for Jesus Christ.
Our Sunday School classes are the first stage of Community-building at DPC. This is where new people can get plugged in and start to get to know the other members of the church, and its where deep friendships can begin. It is at this level that we have organized a structure for meeting each others physical needs. For example, if there are physical needs such as meals that need to be provided for a new mom or a family that needs some help with an important task at home or any of a variety of other physical needs, it will be the Sunday School class that is organized to provide that help.
Another important ministry we use to deepen our relationships with each other and with Christ is Life! Groups. It is there that we meet together regularly with friends to eat together, to hear and discuss what God has been teaching us, to share what what we are struggling with, and to pray together. At Life! groups we desire to go even deeper to develop intimate and open relationships with each other.
Since Life! Groups are gender-mixed groups, we also have Bible Studies for both men and women that meet in smaller groups. These ministries together form the basis of building community at Decatur Presbyterian Church.
